In 2016, we moved our office to the Genesee/Golden area. The building, built in the 80’s, was in desperate need of some updating; but its potential captivated our imagination. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work – both literally and figuratively.
To us, this project was not only an opportunity to express our design aesthetics, but also a platform to deepen our understanding of construction management, applied materials, and building science. We pulled a GC license and managed the entire project ourselves. The front entry, exterior glazing systems, interior metal/glazed office partitions, railings, sinks, and cabinetry are just a few of the details that were custom designed, fabricated, and installed by Vega staff.
In synthesis with the tectonic nature of the project, the office remodel also explored open office and co-working concepts, not as a design trends, but as physical manifestations of our functional aesthetic philosophy and what we believe an office should be. Great consideration was give to the healthy benefits of views, natural light, and the extension of interior habitation to the exterior outdoors. As exposed elements, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were meticulously designed in a clean aesthetic that speaks to their functions of providing fresh water, energy efficient lighting, and clean air to the users. Wood species, graining, and texture for wall sheathing accents were carefully selected to add balance and warmth to the cool, honest materiality of metal and steel elements. Finally, existing spaces were carved and crafted to reflect the responsibility we felt to create spaces that would not only accommodate our specific office functions, collaboration dynamics, and firm culture, but were also flexible, adaptable, and sensitive to anticipated growth, other tenants, and even future users – long after we have moved on.
