Jena’s background in science (BA in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, University of Colorado) and art led her to the profession and discipline of architecture (MA of Architecture, Harvard University) which instilled a deep appreciation for design intent and fed a life-long compulsion to problem solve and do research.
She has been working in the field for 20+ years acquiring a broad base of experience, not necessarily limited to architecture. Project types include mixed use and multi-family developments, retail and restaurants, single family residences, historic preservation and adaptive reuse. A number of these involved measuring, drawing and evaluating existing buildings and determining how to address issues that had arisen due to normal weathering and wear; to failure of design, material, or installation; or to change in use or code.
Her equal passion for design and building science along with an un-quenchable curiosity make her an invaluable member of our team.
Underlying her approach to any project is a genuine interest in how buildings are built, how they’re used, and how they age, usually despite the intent of the architect.
In her free time, you might find Jena mountain biking in Buff Creek, working on one of her construction projects or sewing a new outdoor bag she designed.
Oh. She also is morally, philosophically and otherwise opposed to photographs of herself. If you do not believe me, you should try to take her photograph.
